Parent-Child Pottery Workshop with Vallari Harshwal

£125.00

Date: Wednesday 30th of October

Time: from 10am to 12.30/1pm

Pottery making is a sensorial and visual experience. Clay as a medium is mysterious and unique. A pottery hand-building session provides a therapeutic, soul-satisfying, and unique exposure. There are very few craft-based experiences for families to enjoy. Vallari first delivered this unique one-parent-one-child pottery workshop three years ago. It is heartwarming to witness bonds strengthened as families learn a skill together as equals in a family setup. This workshop offers a learning environment in a fun and casual setting but is taught with serious intention. Learners will be taught hand-building techniques of coiling, slab building, and pinching. There will be an emphasis on exploring toys and unusual forms to gently nudge each young participant and their accompanying adult to give in to their imagination.

    Inspiration and Techniques

Vallari’s work captures the shifting narratives of life, using clay as a medium for storytelling. She draws inspiration from her experiences in India and the UK, creating pieces that reflect both cultures. Her tableware is crafted in stoneware or terracotta, with handbuilt elements and intricate Sgraffito designs on colored slip. Vallari also explores the sculptural potential of clay, pushing its boundaries with innovative techniques. Her process is one of continuous experimentation, aiming to evoke emotion through simple yet powerful designs.
