Inspiration and Techniques
Gilly Whittington’s work has evolved over the years from early work in earthenware, through stoneware reduction firing to her present work in porcelain. The greatest change came in 2018 after she attended an exhibition of abstract expressionist painters, and from then on, she has developed her own way of painting in abstracts onto her pots. The pots are thrown on the wheel, occasionally altered, and after turning, drying, and the bisque firing, they are dipped in a base glaze. She then paints onto that glaze with coloured ash glazes that she makes herself.
