Wheel thrown stoneware candlestick. Painted in layers of black slip and decorated with black and white slip lattice-like edging before being coated in a transparent glaze. A small turned foot-ring lifts the piece, giving the form a lightness when set down upon a surface.

Inspiration and Techniques
Ashley’s ceramics are inspired by the architectural details she notices in Brighton & Hove, especially the paint-splattered iron railings and ornate street furniture. These elements influence her work, capturing moments and places of interest. Using slip decoration, painting, and trailing techniques, she enhances the texture and form of her pieces, exaggerating their silhouettes. The result is a rich, tactile surface that blends functional art with personal narrative.
