Wheel thrown ceramic vase glazed in oatmeal and tenmoku 17 x 11 cm Hania throws without plan for her composite ‘Totem’ vessels. Separate elements are stacked and joined intuitively meaning each piece is completely unique. These vases are finished in contrasting glazes which creates a warm toasted colour where they meet the raw clay.

    Inspiration and Techniques

    Hania Stella-Sawicka originally studied Sculpture at the Royal College of Art and has since translated an interest in form and function, into ceramic objects. Her studio process is spontaneous in nature, creating small batch functional ware and larger one off decorative pieces. Glazes are kept simple to celebrate the texture of the clay and character of the thrown stoneware form.
