A wheel thrown and altered stoneware vase, with protruding spouts for placing cut flower stems. This piece is fully glazed and holds water.

After finalising the form, this piece was brushed with a thick slip made from the same clay body. This has created a tactile, textured surface beneath the smooth white glaze, informed by the heavily painted ironwork railings seen around Brighton and Hove.

Inspiration and Techniques
Ashley’s ceramics are inspired by the architectural details she notices in Brighton & Hove, especially the paint-splattered iron railings and ornate street furniture. These elements influence her work, capturing moments and places of interest. Using slip decoration, painting, and trailing techniques, she enhances the texture and form of her pieces, exaggerating their silhouettes. The result is a rich, tactile surface that blends functional art with personal narrative.
