Inspiration and Techniques
Rebecca’s work is influenced by the British Studio Pottery tradition. But more importantly she’s been influenced by the home and a childhood of making; sewing, knitting, cooking and generally being encouraged to be creative. One of her main influences is her mum, who used to bring home her own pottery creations from her night class. Most pieces are made using the potter’s wheel. Rebecca makes all her own glazes from base ingredients, for example wood ash and oxides, rather than relying on commercially bought glazes. Fluting, imprinting and inlaying pots with slips, inspired by Japanese and Korean pots. She uses kept objects, such as an earring, or an antique glass button from her mum’s old button tin to create the imprints.
