Florence St George
Florence St. George, known by many as Flea, is a British ceramicist whose journey with clay began as a therapeutic outlet after her experience with postnatal depression. In 2020, she took part in The Great Pottery Throwdown, where she revealed her distinctive style to a wide audience. Her heartfelt creations resonated deeply, earning her the ultimate compliment on the show when she moved judge Keith Brymer-Jones to tears. Since her time on the programme, Florence has expanded her artistic journey, collaborating with esteemed jeweller Monica Vinader and working on a unique collection for the Birley Bakery in Chelsea, blending her style with new, imaginative applications.
In 2023, Florence published her first book, The Potter’s Way, a reflection on her journey and the therapeutic power of pottery. In the book, she shares important lessons learned along the way, including her belief that pottery serves as an ideal counterbalance to the digital age, as "phones and clay don’t mix." Her approach reminds us that creativity doesn’t have to be expensive, and she shares how working with clay has grounded her in a way few things can. Through pottery, she finds herself fully engaged—mind, body, and soul—learning resilience as she shapes each piece by hand, embracing the imperfections and inevitable breakages that are part of the process.
