Hania Stella-Sawicka
Hania Stella-Sawicka originally studied Sculpture at the Royal College of Art and has since translated an interest in form and function, into ceramic objects. Her studio process is spontaneous in nature, creating small batch functional ware and larger one off decorative pieces. Glazes are kept simple to celebrate the texture of the clay and character of the thrown stoneware form.
Hania throws without plan for her composite ‘Totem’ vessels. Separate elements are stacked and joined intuitively meaning each piece is completely unique. These vases are finished in a matt glaze which creates a warm toasted colour where it meets the raw clay.
Hania's figurative work is a loose and playful response to the body and the material, creating pitted and fissured surfaces to hold the alchemical processes of the glaze.
