Rebecca Woods
Rebecca is potter working out of her studio in Liverpool. After completing an Art & Design Foundation course, and then a BA(Hons) Photographic Studies, she decided to pursue her other passion, and trained and worked for 20 years as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor. During this time she continued making pottery and in 2017 decided to take a sabbatical from her therapy work. This has continued and she is now a full time potter, her work is shown at fairs, online and in shops and galleries.
Most pieces are made using the potters wheel. Rebecca makes all her own glazes from base ingredients, for example wood ash and oxides, rather than relying on commercially bought glazes. Fluting, imprinting and inlaying pots with slips, inspired by Japanese and Korean pots. She uses kept objects, such as an earring, or an antique glass button from her mum’s old button tin to create the imprints. The pieces are high fired to 1260 degrees c, in an electric kiln.
