Hana candle/incense holder

£17.00

The Hana candle/incense holder is a versatile object that can be used to hold slim relaxation candles, incense sticks or a little bunch of dried flowers. Whatever you need at the time to add a little beauty to your quiet time and space. The Jesmonite surface not only has a beautiful texture, but it’s also the perfect material as it is fireproof and so, safe to use with anything that involves burning and heat. Hana is part of my ‘Self Space’ range, the designs are inspired by photographer Jonas Daley’s ‘Red Beds’ series – a collection of photographs of a red rock system developed and formed in the Himalayan orogeny. The objects have soft organic curves, looking almost as if eroded over time, referencing the softness, layers and play of shadow of the rocks. Other objects in the Self Space range include Evora (a smudge bowl), Idra (a sage/palo santo rest) and Iva (a crystal/palo santo holder). All 4 items are designed to help you create a beautiful space of quietness in your home. Each piece has its function, perfect for having a still moment or a meditation session.

Details

  • Made from Jesmonite, a water-based resin manufactured in the UK
  • Dimensions: 5 cm wide x 5.5 cm long x 4 cm high
  • Holds candles of 0.4-0.6 cm wide in diameter
  • Weight: approx 168 g
  • 2 mm cork bottom to protect surfaces

Care

  • You can dab (do not rub) your Jesmonite pieces with a soft damp cloth. In case of spillage, I recommend cleaning immediately using warm soapy water, if needed, and wiping dry afterwards. Please do not use a metal scourer or rough cloth as this will cause scratches on the surface.
  • Each piece is sealed for waterproofing, however, I do not advise submerging or leaving your Jesmonite pieces sitting in water.
  • To remove dried spilled wax from your holder, put the holder in the freezer until the wax is frozen. This causes the wax to harden and shrink and come off easier.

Tips for use

  • Use with a candle that is too narrow: something you can do if your candle is a little too narrow for the holder is to add some width to the bottom of the candle by wrapping a strip of aluminium foil around the candle until the candle fits in the holder perfectly.
  • Use with a candle that is too wide: if your candle is slightly too wide for the holder, you can carefully scrape some wax off your candle at the bottom with a knife. Scrape off only thin layers at a time to make sure your candle will not become too narrow for the holder.

Note

I have made every effort to ensure product photographs, descriptions and details listed on the site are accurate. However, as all my Jesmonite pieces are individually made and finished by hand, slight colour/pattern variations and small surface differences like air bubbles may occur. These features are part of the casting process, making each piece unique.

    Inspiration and Techniques

Before starting Mono & Lena, Noura used to work as a footwear designer. She did this for about 10 years, during which she worked for small independent brands up to large high-street retailers. The motivation or creative input behind those designs would be the latest trends. Trends that would dictate what the next big thing will be, but also what will be out and make the designs look old-fashioned. The rate at which these trends would come and go became faster and faster, and also often felt irrelevant and detached from real life. Noura did not want this emphasis on ‘in/out’ for her home accessories. Her objective for starting M&L was and still is, to design and create home accessories that you will love and cherish for a lifetime. And she does this by not following the latest trends, but by creating modern accessories that offer functionality and clever design that will add individual accents to your interior.
