Evora smudge bowl

The Evora smudge bowl is created for your cleansing rituals. It's a beautiful object for a beautiful technique to clear your space and fill your home and mind with positivity. The curved design is perfect to rest your smudge sticks on in a balanced way, while ashes will safely fall into the bowl part. If you wish, you can also fill the bowl part with fine sand to press your stick into to extinguish it. The Jesmonite surface not only has a beautiful texture, but it’s also the perfect material for a smudge bowl as it is fireproof and so, safe to use with anything that involves burning and heat. Evora is part of my ‘Self Space’ range, the designs are inspired by photographer Jonas Daley’s ‘Red Beds’ series – a collection of photographs of a red rock system developed and formed in the Himalayan orogeny. The objects have soft organic curves, looking almost as if eroded over time, referencing the softness, layers and play of shadow of the rocks. Other objects in the Self Space range include Hana (a candle/incense holder), Idra (a smudge stick/incense holder) and Iva (a crystal/palo santo holder). All 4 items are designed to help you create a beautiful space of quietness in your home. Each piece has its function, perfect for having a still moment, a meditation session or to aid with your cleansing rituals.

  • Made from Jesmonite, a water-based resin manufactured in the UK
  • Dimensions: 11.5 cm wide x 15.5 cm long x 4 cm high
  • Weight: approx 460 g
  • 2 mm cork bottom to protect surfaces

Care

  • To remove any burnt pieces or ashes, carefully empty the holder over a bin and, if needed, blow gently to help. Make sure not to rub to avoid marks setting in. After most or all of the ashes are removed, dab with a soft damp cloth to pick up any leftover particles.
  • Each piece is sealed for waterproofing, however, I do not advise submerging or leaving your Jesmonite pieces sitting in water.

Note

I have made every effort to ensure product photographs, descriptions and details listed on the site are accurate. However, as all my Jesmonite pieces are individually made and finished by hand, slight colour/pattern variations and small surface differences like air bubbles may occur. These features are part of the casting process, making each piece unique.

    Inspiration and Techniques

Before starting Mono & Lena, Noura used to work as a footwear designer. She did this for about 10 years, during which she worked for small independent brands up to large high-street retailers. The motivation or creative input behind those designs would be the latest trends. Trends that would dictate what the next big thing will be, but also what will be out and make the designs look old-fashioned. The rate at which these trends would come and go became faster and faster, and also often felt irrelevant and detached from real life. Noura did not want this emphasis on ‘in/out’ for her home accessories. Her objective for starting M&L was and still is, to design and create home accessories that you will love and cherish for a lifetime. And she does this by not following the latest trends, but by creating modern accessories that offer functionality and clever design that will add individual accents to your interior.
