Violaine’s current work explores the interplay between form and personality through the creation of clay vessels. Each piece begins with a focus on curves – their subtleties and how they shape the essence of the object.
Once formed, she applies a restrained palette of slips and glazes, using brushes, sponges, or any tool that feels intuitive in the moment. The process is guided by the volume and contours of the vessel, which shape the rhythm of her mark-making.
It’s a dynamic dialogue – almost a dance – between her hand and the clay, where each movement responds to the other, revealing the vessel’s character through its form and surface. This process reflects her desire for creative self-expression, moving beyond the boundaries of functional ceramics.
Each piece created in this series is unique, and cannot be replicated.

Inspiration and Techniques
Typically focussed on functional pieces and tableware, Violaine brings her eye for detail into every creation. She loves experimenting with different techniques such as raku and wood firings, an intricate and labour-intensive process where pieces go through intensive alternative firing processes.
For Violaine, the resulting patterns and surfaces are fascinating. Each piece emerges with unpredictable markings, unique in character, and guiding the imagination down a different path.
