Landscapes 005

£290.00

Hand thrown vessel, with a textured off-white lightly crackled glaze reminiscent of ancient archeological artefacts. Carbon reactions occurring when the red hot piece was placed into burning wood has created irregular dark patches which may evolve over time. The glazed area contrasts with the rough and bare surface of the clay, which has been blackened by the smoke.

Unglazed and porous inside. The vessel has been mineral waxed for a soft sheen finish. This piece is entirely irregular, and therefore unique.

Made in a gritty East London courtyard.

    Inspiration and Techniques

Typically focussed on functional pieces and tableware, Violaine brings her eye for detail into every creation. She loves experimenting with different techniques such as raku and wood firings, an intricate and labour-intensive process where pieces go through intensive alternative firing processes.

For Violaine, the resulting patterns and surfaces are fascinating. Each piece emerges with unpredictable markings, unique in character, and guiding the imagination down a different path.
