A unique piece made from a blend of stoneware clays, with a glossy sage green glaze, and wood fired in Wytham Woods, a very special site owned by Oxford University.

The wood-firing lasted for over 10 hours, using real timber as fuel. As the kiln reaches high temperatures, natural ash from the fire settles onto the surface and melts into the glaze, creating soft variations in colour and texture.

This wood-firing process captures the movement of the flame, producing warm, organic tones and subtle surface effects that would be impossible to achieve in an electric kiln.

The result is a fully vitrified, durable ceramic designed for everyday use, with a finish that reflects both craftsmanship and the unpredictability of the kiln.

Measuring approximately 20.5 centimetres in height and 16 centimetres in diameter, it’s perfectly sized for both full arrangements and single stems. The vase should be washed by hand and is not suitable for the dishwasher. Each piece is handmade in the UK.

    Inspiration and Techniques

Typically focussed on functional pieces and tableware, Violaine brings her eye for detail into every creation. She loves experimenting with different techniques such as raku and wood firings, an intricate and labour-intensive process where pieces go through intensive alternative firing processes.

For Violaine, the resulting patterns and surfaces are fascinating. Each piece emerges with unpredictable markings, unique in character, and guiding the imagination down a different path.
