Violaine’s approach to tableware is rooted in quiet minimalism, designed to let the food take centre stage. Each of the three platters in this set showcases a unique glazing technique – from fluid pouring to expressive brushwork. The largest platter is finished predominantly in a soft white glaze, the medium combines white and transparent, while the smallest is mostly transparent, accented with a delicate brushstroke.
Crafted from Violaine’s signature clay – a gently speckled body that is both refined in appearance and remarkably durable – these pieces are as practical as they are elegant. Thoughtfully designed for everyday use, yet special enough for any occasion.
Each piece, and every set, is one of a kind – an unrepeatable expression of craftsmanship.
Size: Small: 21cm x 11cm; Medium: 34.5cm x 14cm; Large: 38cm x 17.5cm
While dishwasher safe for ease and convenience, these handmade ceramics are best kept out of the microwave and oven to preserve their integrity over time.
Inspiration and Techniques
Typically focussed on functional pieces and tableware, Violaine brings her eye for detail into every creation. She is currently experimenting with the magic of raku—an intricate and labour-intensive process where pieces are taken red-hot from the kiln and placed directly into contact with combustible materials.
For Violaine, the resulting surfaces evoke a variety of landscapes: a network of roads or fields seen from above, or even unfamiliar lunar terrains. Each piece emerges with unpredictable markings, unique in character, and guiding the imagination down a different path.
