Set of 6 Elm Salad Bowls

£180.00

Elm wood is extremely hard to find, following the near total destruction of the species caused by Dutch Elm disease. When this piece of battered elm came in, it seemed too small to become one of the signature large salad bowls — but with careful cutting, it was transformed into six individual salad bowls. Each one is unique, with striking figuring, and together they make a truly special set.

On this site you’ll also find a slightly larger salad bowl and a fruit bowl made from the same piece of elm. It’s rare to come across elm of this size, so these bowls are unlikely to be repeated any time soon.

    Inspiration and Techniques

With so much waste and redundancy in the world, wherever possible, Glynn uses wood that has already had one life or has become available through a natural occurrence such as a storm or land clearance. No tree lasts forever and when it is time for it to be felled on safety grounds, he is there to gather whatever pieces he can. Other sources include reclamation yards where old gate posts and furniture can be upcycled into objects of beauty.
