Thin walled oak bowl

£50.00

When Storm Eowyn struck in Jan 25, it felled a local oak tree on the Bruern estate that was about 400 years old. I rescued some of the wood and have been steadily making different types of bowls from it. Some are thick and chunky but this piece just wanted to be turned extremely thin.  There is beautiful figuring in the wood.  If you use the what3words app, type in rejoiced.informs.airship to see exactly where this magnificent tree once stood.

    Inspiration and Techniques

With so much waste and redundancy in the world, wherever possible, Glynn uses wood that has already had one life or has become available through a natural occurrence such as a storm or land clearance. No tree lasts forever and when it is time for it to be felled on safety grounds, he is there to gather whatever pieces he can. Other sources include reclamation yards where old gate posts and furniture can be upcycled into objects of beauty.
