Organic looking, with irregular grey-green waves of glaze on the inside, and a couple of bonus green copper beauty marks. This is my signature shape for serving bowls.

Stoneware. Glazed inside, unglazed outside showing throwing and trimming lines, and some toast marks from the heat of the kiln. The clay is a blend, with waves of caramel tones and iron speckles.

    Inspiration and Techniques

    Typically a ceramicist with attention to detail and focussed on functional pieces and tableware, Violaine is currently experimenting with the magic of raku, an intricate and labour intensive process which entails taking her ceramics red hot from the kiln straight into contact with combustible materials. To Violaine the resulting pieces are reminiscent of a variety of landscapes: perhaps a network of roads or fields seen from above, or an unfamiliar lunar landscape. All are totally unpredictable when they are created, each piece is unique and with its own character, and leads our imagination down a different path.
